Twenty-nine teams and more than 175 tennis players, along with their families and supporters, will converge on Daytona Beach from across the state for the first of two consecutive weekends of USTA Florida Adult League Section Championships to determine who will represent Florida at the 2010 USTA League National Championships.

Teams representing Brevard County, Broward County, Gainesville, Hillsborough County, Jacksonville, Lee/Charlotte counties, North Miami/Dade, Ocala, Pensacola, Pinellas County, Sarasota, South Miami/Dade, Treasure Coast, and Volusia/Flagler counties will battle in women's and men's 2.5, 3.5, and 4.5-rated divisions beginning Friday, on Aug. 13-15, 2010, at the Florida Tennis Center in the culmination of the 2010 USTA Florida Adult League season.

"It is not an easy path to Daytona," says USTA Florida Adult & Senior League Coordinator Dona Garcia. "All these teams start at the local level with fierce local matches, then teams earn the opportunity to play in one of the five Florida Region Championships, then the winners advance to Daytona Beach for the Section Championships. Winning the Florida Section Championship will earn a team a spot in the USTA League National Championships."

Only three of the six Florida championship teams from 2009 in the 2.5/3.5/4.5 divisions made it through regional play this year to again qualify for the Florida Sectional. The Jacksonville women's 2.5 and Sarasota women's 4.5 teams make return trips, as does the men's 2.5 squad from Ocala.

The three-time defending Orlando 3.5 men's team saw their reign end at the regional level in 2010. South Miami-Dade also came up short of qualifying to defend their men's 4.5 title from 2009, and their women's 3.5 title.

Jacksonville and Sarasota are the only cities/regions to qualify teams for all three women's division championships this weekend.

"In the 2.5 men's division, Jacksonville has only five rostered players on their team. They have played all season with only five guys," Garcia said. "It will be interesting to see how they do this weekend through four matches!"

Women's 2010 Participating Teams:

Women 2.5 -- Jacksonville (captain Susan Bogicevic), Ocala (Christine Godek), Brevard County (Susan Joy Murphy), Sarasota (Margaret Barbaro), South Miami/Dade (Sandra Teter).

Women 3.5 -- Jacksonville (captain Mary Dominguez), Hillsborough (Pam Hodges), Volusia/Flagler  (Kristi Rice), Sarasota (Roxy Mollod), North Miami/Dade (Jennifer Quinton).

Women 4.5 -- Jacksonville (captain Helen Ciesla), Gainesville (Debby Bowers), Brevard County (Nannette Richardson), Sarasota (Joann DeMartini), Broward County (Antoinette Looney).

The winning team in each division will represent Florida at the USTA League Adult Championships in October.
