2011 USTA Florida Adult League 2.5-4.5 Championships This Weekend in Daytona

league-2011-section-chps-loThe pinnacle of the Florida adult league tennis season, the 2011 USTA Florida 2.5/3.5/4.5 Adult League Section Championships will be held this coming weekend on Aug. 12-14, 2011, when 40 teams in three men's and women's divisions will compete at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Teams from Alachua County, Brevard County, Broward County, Collier County, Duval County, Escambia County, Hillsborough County, Indian River/St. Lucie/Martin counties, Leon County, Marion County, Okaloosa/Walton/Bay counties, Orange/Seminole counties, Pinellas County, Sarasota, South Miami-Dade, and Volusia/Flagler counties will battle to earn a berth to represent the USTA Florida Section at the USTA League National Championships in September and October in California and Arizona.

Three teams successfully qualified again to the section championships to defend their titles from 2010 -- Duval County (Jacksonville) in the Women's 2.5 division, Marion County (Ocala) in the Men's 2.5 division, and Broward County in the Men's 3.5 division.

Here are the teams competing this weekend at the 2011 USTA Florida 2.5/3.5/4.5 Adult League Section Championships:


Men's 4.5 Division -- Alachua County (captain: Roy Cribb), Collier County (Frank Fourgeau), Duval County (Brian Monroe), Indian River/St. Lucie/Martin counties (Scot Wilke), Okaloosa/Walton/Bay counties (Jason McLemore), Orange/Seminole counties (Kenton Keiling), Pinellas County (Mark Curran), South Miami/Dade (Victor Garcia)

Men 3.5 Division -- Alachua County (captain: Gabriel Ghita), Brevard County (Keith Howard), Broward County (Kevin Sims), Collier County (Steven Akers), Escambia County (David Bryant), Hillsborough County (Kirk Mason), Orange/Seminole counties (Fernando Colon), Volusia/Flagler counties (Dan Hart)

Men 2.5 Division -- Leon County (captain: Kevin Kjellerup), Marion County (Daniel O'Connor), Volusia/Flagler counties (Oscar Morejon)


Women 4.5 Division -- Alachua County (captain: Kar Yee Fransham), Broward County (Alaina Fotiu-Wojtowicz), Collier County (Mary Anderson-Goddard), Duval County (Cynthia McGehee), Indian River/St. Lucie/Martin counties (Katherine Zanon), Leon County (Lynn Wells), Orange/Seminole counties (Tami Florin), Pinellas County (Judi Alford)

Women 3.5 Division -- Alachua County (captain: Nathalie Fosse), Brevard County (Nancy Aumuller), Collier County (Lisa Weiler), Okaloosa/Walton/Bay counties (Michelle Walker), Pinellas County (Kathleen Annichiarico), Sarasota (Lance Martin), South Miami/Dade (Montse Fertel), Volusia/Flagler counties (Judith Schafer)

Women 2.5 Division -- Duval County (captain: Erica Kirk), Escambia County (Karen Penn), Marion County (Thiroshan Chetty), Sarasota (Paula Bennett), South Miami/Dade (Samantha Evans)

USTA League adult participants competes at NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) levels of 2.5 (beginner) to 5.0 (advanced).

The 2011 USTA League 2.5 Adult National Championships will take place Sept. 23-25, 2011 at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The 3.5 Adult National Championships will be Oct. 14-16, and the 4.5 Adult National Championships Oct. 28-30, both at the Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.
