Rita Gladstone’s volunteer work comes under very tough scrutiny.  She is the Area League Coordinator for USA Team Tennis (youth) for District 16.  Where does she organize play for this group of youngsters?  At the Florida Tennis Center!  All of the USA Florida Tennis staff have watched closely and admired the great work that Rita has done.  Each season the program has grown since Rita started running it! (She’s only been at this volunteer position for 10 months!)
She has not only brought much recognition to the Florida Tennis Center, since all the matches are played there, but she has received many praises from parents and players regarding how well run the program is.  She even added a special sizzle to the program by having it presented by Steakhouse!

Rita, a tennis professional and mom, came to Daytona Beach with her husband Andy, Director of Competitive Tennis for USA Tennis Florida.  Their son Paul and daughter Mira are beginning to appreciate the finer points of our great sport!

Every Friday, Rita has filled 24 courts at the Florida Tennis Center with over 160 children.  This is a big change from Volusia County children having to travel to different locations each week.  Jodi Manning, Coordinator of USA Team Tennis for the section, says, “Rita has turned the Florida Tennis Center in a tennis ‘playground’ where parents, coaches, and kids meet to play and socialize. She sees the future of tennis through the extensive Ralleyball League she has created.”

When asked why she likes to volunteer, Rita answers quickly, “I love to see tennis grow and I know that my work is making a difference in the community.”  It certainly is!  Thank you Rita, July’s Volunteer of the Month, for all that you do, and for making a difference!  We salute you!
