As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary for USA League Tennis, we also celebrate Dolly Morris’ 25 years of involvement with USA League Tennis in Miami-Dade County!

Dolly Morris has been a USA Tennis Florida Volunteer for more than 25 years.  She has been a league coordinator for most of that volunteering.  At the Nasdaq-100 Open, Dolly has also been there session after session promoting leagues and promoting USTA membership for most of the past ten years!

Dolly started with just a few women’s teams.  Someone dropped a bunch of papers at her front door and said, “You’re it!”  Then she added the men’s league one year later.  It grew to men’s, women’s, seniors, mixed seniors, North Dade, South Dade.  Today, Dolly is responsible for the seniors, mixed seniors and the men’s and women’s adults for North Dade.  Dolly says that she loves seeing the players get so excited about the program (and so competitive) that they can’t wait until the next season to begin once the last season is over.

Most recently, Dolly has added junior tennis players to her enjoyment!  In 2003, she organized a USA Team Tennis (youth) program with 30 kids.   She took the children to Lakeland for the USATT(Y) Championships and they qualified for the Florida/Georgia Challenge.  The children had a wonderful time.  Dolly delighted in the phone calls she received hearing from them as to how excited they were to have done so well and to see their pictures in the paper.  She really loves working with these young players and seeing them enjoy the game.

Why does Dolly do all this?  She answers simply, “It’s because of the love I have for tennis.”  Due to injuries, Dolly doesn’t play anymore, so the best thing she can do to express her passion for the sport is to volunteer so others can play.

Thanks, Dolly.  You are a very special volunteer, and we certainly appreciate all you do as we salute you as the Volunteer of the Month for February!
