Why is it that the busiest people can find room for yet one more volunteer task?
Susie Rahimitabar is the newly appointed Orange County Representative for USA Tennis Florida.
With three part time jobs, and a very full volunteer schedule as the Secretary for CTA-Greater Orlando Tennis Association, Susie still felt she was willing to take on the responsibilities as the newly appointed County Representative for the Orlando Area.
Known as Coach Rah in her position as the Girls Varsity Tennis Coach for Dr. Phillips High School, Susie has recently expanded the High School’s Tennis program to include a Junior Varsity team. This has doubled the number of participants in tennis at Dr. Phillips High School.
The high school has a very successful team, (1st in the District, 1st in the Region, and
8th
in the state for 2005), which made it difficult for new players to make the team.
True to the mission of our Association, “to promote and develop tennis in Florida,” Susie wanted a place for newer players to get involved.
The junior varsity provides that.
Susie stated, “I know that once someone starts playing this fantastic sport, they are hooked for life.” She created this junior varsity team to provide that “hook for life” for as many youngsters as possible.
Coach Rah is also very proud of the tournament that she formed, “Queens of the Court.”
The tournament will celebrate its 10th Anniversary this coming December with its largest participation ever (12 courts of ladies doubles).
The event is a round robin, luck of the draw partners and opponents format that, in the end, produces four top scorers who play off for titles of Queens and Princesses, and are awarded prizes in a “coronation” ceremony.
Proceeds from the event benefit charities including the Genesis Foundation and Missionary Ventures International.
In addition to active involvement with her tennis playing family, husband Jay, daughter Jennifer, and son Jason, and her tennis professional and volunteer life described here, Susie has two more part time professional positions.
These are Guest Relations Hostess for Walt Disney World (Epcot Center) and Independent Consulting Accountant.
When asked why she does it all, her answer is, “I love the sport.
I really like the people who play the sport.
It makes me happy to see others develop the love and passion for tennis that I have, and to know that I had a role in making that happen!”
USA Tennis Florida salutes Susie Rahimitabar for that role she has in making it happen!
Congratulations on being the Volunteer of the Month for June!
