Chuck Collier, tournament director for the 2005 USA League Tennis Adult Sectional Aug. 12-14, was coined “Chief Black Cloud” last year after a series of bad weather events.  Being that Aug. 13 was the anniversary of the disastrous Hurricane Charley, Collier insisted on performing a new, improved “non-rain dance.”

“We witnessed the ‘non-rain dance’ this morning,” Collier’s wife Joanne Collier said Friday. “We are hoping that after this weekend Chuck’s new nickname will be Chief White Cloud.”

USA Tennis Florida did its own non-rain dance, and amazingly, the Florida rain did not interfere with the sectional event.  Many competitive matches were played at the Florida Tennis Center througout the three-day event, with 531 Florida participants ranging from 2.5 to 5.5 skill levels.  There were 25 men’s teams and 20 women’s teams, and the tennis was entertaining and aggressive.  Winning teams qualified for national competition which begins at the end of September.  Well done USA Leauge Tennis!
