When dealing with beginner to intermediate doubles players, I consider it one of my first responsibilities to get them poaching.  In the beginning, the vast majority of players are reluctant to go to the net let alone poach onto their partner's side.  However, by constantly and continually prodding them to "Go! Go! Go!" then praising them for their efforts, the players start to feel more comfortable with it.  Before long, they see positive results which in turn takes their game to the next level...both literally and figuratively.  If you don't poach, practice it and then bring it to a match.  It is the easiest way to help your partner hold serve.
