In September 2004 the City of Ft. Lauderdale Parks and Recreation Department gained an official 501(c) 3, not for profit organization that is now on its way to great success!

First Serve Broward, Inc., located at Joseph C. Carter Park, works to deliver the First Serve Life Skills Curriculum™ that promotes positive values, healthy habits and education.

Announced this month, First Serve Broward, Inc. will receive a $15,000 USTA Tennis & Education Foundation (USTA T&EF) 2006 Spring Grant.  These grants are awarded to not-for-profit organizations that support efforts in tennis and education to help disadvantaged, at-risk youth and people with disabilities.

Along with the implementation of the First Serve Life Skills Curriculum™, the organization also works toward the following:

  • To support and encourage youth in achieving their academic potential through homework assistance, mentoring and educational enrichment programs
  • To promote and ingrain the importance of mental and physical fitness
  • To provide a safe and nurturing emotional and physical after school community environment
  • To introduce the life long benefits of playing the great sport of tennis

The USTA Tennis & Education Foundation makes grants to 501(c)(3) organizations that demonstrate their commitment to the mission of “building lives through tennis and education.”

First serve has a mission to support the education, growth and development of Broward County youth by teaching measurable, basic life and tennis skills, and the application of those skills both on and off the tennis court.
