USTA teams with MTV to present two lucky attendees with tickets to the 2006 VMAs in New York

The USTA announced the addition of R&B rising superstar Ne-Yo, pop princesses The Cheetah Girls, tennis star Andre Agassi and animated icons SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer to its impressive lineup of celebrity participants for the annual Arthur Ashe Kids' Day presented by Hess on Saturday, August 26 at the USTA National Tennis Center. Previously announced performers and participants of the stadium show include Teddy Geiger, Cheyenne Kimball, Andy Roddick, James Blake, Serena Williams, Daisy Fuentes and Quddus. The full-day tennis and music festival for children and families kicks off the 2006 US Open, which runs from August 28 - September 10.  Admission is free for the interactive games and clinics, open from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The event will feature a live tennis and music stadium show hosted by Daisy Fuentes and Quddus from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m with performances by Ne-Yo, Teddy Geiger and Cheyenne Kimball. Prior to the stadium show will begin an exciting schedule of free interactive tennis games and attractions taking place throughout the grounds of the USTA National Tennis Center. Tennis pros including James Blake, Steffi Graf and Vince Spadea along with special guests The Cheetah Girls, The Slumber Party Girls, SpongeBob Square Pants and Dora the Explorer will preside over the activities from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

In addition, for the first time MTV will have a booth on-site on the grounds of the USTA National Tennis Center during the day which will include a raffle giving attendees a chance to win two tickets to the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards.  The winner will be announced at the Hess Get Pumped Up Stage on the grounds at 12:45pm by Mad Linx, host of BET's Rap City.

The free interactive activities, offering children of all ages a chance to hit with top tennis pros and win prizes, include:

  • The Hess Express Obstacle Course - children can test their agility, balance, running and tennis skills
  • NikeGO Tennis with James Blake
  • Barilla Challenge of Champions with Steffi Graf
  • "CBS 2's Eye on the Prize" - kids can show off their athletic skills and win cool prizes hosted by CBS 2 Sports Anchor Ducis Rodgers
  • Olympus Designed to Win with Vince Spadea
  • IBM SpeedZone - a radar gun will test the speed of kids' serves
  • Adaptive Tennis - demonstrations and clinics conducted for children with disabilities
  • PTR Tennis - PTR certified tennis professionals have mini-courts set up where children can hit with teaching professionals at full speed with complete strokes
  • USRSA Pro Racquet Round Up - kids get a chance to see what it feels like to hit with a top touring pro's personal racquet such as Andre Agassi and Venus and Serena Williams
  • USPTA Little Tennis - USPTA certified teaching professionals host a court consisting of 30 colorful hitting stations
  • Beat the Pro - gives children an opportunity to play points against some of the top professionals from across the world including Robby Ginepri, Scoville Jenkins, Carly Guillickson, Alexa Glatch, Cecil Mammit and Phillip Simmonds
  • ATP Doubles Revolution - hosted by Wayne Bryan, with various ATP Doubles players
  • Champion of the Court - kids play against one another to win points and become the champion.
  • Nickelodeon's Lets Just Play featuring a Rockwall
  • Face-Painting, Hair Braiding, and a Juggling Workshop

For the stadium concert, tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster (1-866-OPEN-TIX), usopen.org and at the USTA National Tennis Center box office.  American Express is the official card of Arthur Ashe Kids' Day.  General admission promenade tickets cost $10 and loge tickets are $20.  The Arthur Ashe Kids' Day stadium show starts at 2:00 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally by CBS on Sunday, August 27, at 1:00 p.m. ET.  Kids 12-and-under with stadium show tickets will receive a free Arthur Ashe Kids' Day visor from the USTA and Hess on a first-come, first-serve basis.  The rain date (stadium show only) is Sunday, August 27.

Presented by Hess and produced by the USTA, Arthur Ashe Kids' Day honors tennis legend Arthur Ashe and continues his mission of using tennis as a means to instill in kids the values of humanitarianism, leadership and academic excellence.

A portion of the proceeds from Arthur Ashe Kids' Day benefit the USTA NJTL (National Junior Tennis League), which was established by Arthur Ashe, Charlie Pasarell and Sheridan Snyder in 1969.  NJTL is a community-driven program supported by the USTA, that significantly impacts the lives of America's youth.  NJTL seeks to develop the character of young people through tennis and to emphasize the ideals and life of Arthur Ashe.
