Shelby Nordlund of Miami just turned 15 in August; she might be one of the youngest USTA Florida volunteers, but according to fellow volunteers and staff members, she is also one of the most helpful, enthusiastic team players USTA Florida has!

As an honor student at Miami Palmetto High School and granddaughter of USTA Florida Community Coordinator Cathy Nordlund, Shelby enjoyed volunteering with her grandmother as often as possible.  In less than a year, Shelby has shared her talent and commitment with USTA Florida in many ways.

At the Village of Palmetto Bay Celebration, Shelby played with the kids, demonstrating tennis with a mini nets and foam balls; at Calle Ocho she worked the USTA Florida booth, passing out information to the Latin community; Shelby attended a Recreational Coach Workshop to learn tennis teaching methods; she volunteered at the YMCA-South Dade during Christmas break, working with the Tiny Tots tennis program.

At the NASDAQ-100 Open in Key Biscayne, she signed up more USTA memberships than most of the adult volunteers.  At this professional event, Dave Kozlowski from Tennis Channel's Inside Tennis with the Koz interviewed her at USTA Membership Appreciation Day.  She's a television star!

Her volunteer experience does not end there.  Shelby helped with the Cinco de Mayo Tennis Event in Key Biscayne; she volunteered with Special Needs children from Miami Dade Parks and Recreation; she helped run registration at the North Dade Block Party.

"I always have fun volunteering with USTA Florida and other (usually adult) volunteers," Shelby said.  "The adults I work with usually end up acting like kids anyway!"
