Nearly $20,000 raised at USTA Florida's 57th Annual Meeting

USTA Florida's 57th Annual Meeting, held Nov. 30-Dec. 3 at the Amelia Island Plantation Resort, was a huge success!  Volunteers from around the state were able to reflect upon the positive impact tennis brings to Florida communities.

Announced in October 2006, the USTA Florida Section Foundation's board of directors declared a $50,000 commitment to build two multi-purpose tennis courts at the Real Life Children's Ranch in Okeechobee, a residential group home caring for boys and girls (ages 6-18) who are physically, sexually, or emotionally abused; homeless, neglected or mildly disturbed.

During this year's annual meeting, attendees raised a total of $19,043.75 for this project!  Through participation in a Silent Auction and Casino Night event directed by USTA Florida's Director of Community Development Linda Curtis, and miscellaneous initiatives throughout the weekend, USTA Florida is almost half-way there!

"This weekend provided a wonderful opportunity for people to share the amazing effects tennis has on their communities," Curtis said.  "And now we are going to bring tennis to the children at the Real Life Children’s Ranch so that their lives can also be enriched by our wonderful game.  I am absolutely delighted at the end result from this weekend.  We are off to a great start!"

USTA Florida's immediate past president Don Cleveland had the chance to visit the ranch.  This project is very dear to him.

"I am thrilled that our USTA Florida tennis family shares the Foundation's enthusiasm regarding the Children's Ranch project," he said.  "This was evident by the tremendous response from our team during the fundraising events at the annual meeting.
"Having the opportunity to meet Scott Fraser, the Ranch director, and see and hear what benefits we are able to provide for these children by building the courts is both exciting and challenging," Cleveland said.  "I urge the Florida tennis community to please continue to support the Foundation's efforts so this projected can become a reality for these children."

Real Life Children's Ranch (RLCR) is committed to providing long-term residential care and treatment to the abused, neglected, and abandoned children of South Florida without regard to race, creed or religion.  They endeavor to work with the entire family unit whenever possible as they believe that the family is the heart of society.  Real Life Children's Ranch provides children with a complete functional family environment.
