USTA Florida appreciates Lyn Abbot of Venice

December 15, 2006 09:21 AM

Lyn Abbot of Venice retired as a USTA Florida volunteer after 12 years of service at USTA Florida's 57th Annual Meeting in Amelia Island, Dec. 1-3.  Abbot began his volunteer service in 1994 and served as a member of the Adult Competitive Council under chairman Mark Taylor's leadership.

"Lyn is an individual whose commitment to tennis knows no bounds," Taylor said.

Abbot was the Chairman of the Men's Intersectional teams, active on the Adult sanction and schedule committee, and he was the tournament director at Courtside Racquet Club in Venice presiding over two established designated senior events.

Abbot was also instrumental at the State Closed 70-90 tournament in Sarasota, and he was the recipient of the USTA Florida Committee Volunteer of the Year Award in 2005.
During his reign as Men's Intersectional chair, Florida placed second in consecutive years (2005 and 2006) and won four individual age groups in Jackson, MS.   He has provided leadership and foundation for future Florida teams to have national success at the national team competition.
"Lyn will be sorely missed as a member of the ACC and in the specific roles that he served," Taylor said.  "He is a class individual that has provided leadership, wisdom, and insight in all areas of tennis.  I thank him for his contribution to the sport and USTA Florida, and I wish him future success on the court as he continues to play at a national level in his age division."
