USTA Florida Loses a Former Junior Tennis Player

USTA Florida would like to offer our deepest sympathy to the family of Kyle D. Porter.  Kyle was involved in a tragic car accident Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007 on State Road 80 near West Palm Beach, Fla.  The funeral service will be held at Vista Memorial Funeral Home Sunday at 1:00p.m. in Miami Lakes. 

Kyle was a former nationally ranked USTA junior tennis player for the Florida section and played in the junior circuit with tennis greats James Blake, Andy Roddick, and Vincent Spadea.  Prominent highlights in his junior and professional career include title wins in both singles and doubles for the Florida State Championships in 1997 and a full tennis scholarship to Vanderbilt University.  Below is Kyle’s tennis record with USTA Florida:

Kyle is survived by his father Ron, mother Doris and younger brother Derek.  His family is deeply rooted in the sport industry as Ron Porter, two-time Super Bowl player and veteran NFL star linebacker, was recently named President of the NFL Alumni-South Florida.  Doris has volunteered with the Chris Evert Tennis Academy and the Andy Roddick Foundation for 12 years, and she currently serves as Director of Public Relations for NFL Alumni-South Florida.  Kyle’s brother Derek, age 22, just graduated from UNC where he played NCAA Division I tennis and was captain of the team.  Kyle was 27 when he passed away.
