Tim Allen awarded February Volunteer of the Month

February 1, 2007 08:58 AM

Tim “The Toolman” Allen is honored as February Volunteer of the Month for his initiative to grow tennis in Hendry County.  Originally looking for instruction for his two daughters, Tim decided to get involved with tennis himself.  Although he has volunteered with USTA Florida for less than a year, his accomplishments are praiseworthy and his attitude is one of kind.

Tim currently volunteers as Hendry County Representative and is president of the new CTA he formed in Clewiston.  He was the recipient of a community funding grant from USTA Florida to help grow his new programs.

Tim put together an after-school program in Clewiston and successfully ran a summer youth and adult program.  He also held a school in-service to train new instructors the basic teachings of youth tennis.

His devotion to tennis does not stop here.  Tim has also applied for a sanctioned junior tournament to be run in Clewiston.

USTA Florida president-elect Don Davis appreciates Tim’s effort.

“Tim Allen is a great addition to our USTA Florida volunteer workforce,” Davis said.  “He came to us looking for a tennis program for his daughters and with some support, he not only created it himself, but he also single-handedly created a CTA to further promote and develop tennis in his county.  Tim is not only well organized and committed to his objectives but he’s also a great guy to be around.  We’re very lucky to have him as part of our organization!”

Tim currently works as a professor at Florida Atlantic University and is supported by his wife and two daughters.

Thank you Tim for advocating the sport we all love, and we appreciate your devotion to the game of tennis!
