February 8, 2007 02:25 PM

The USTA and U.S. Fed Cup Captain Zina Garrison announced that Serena Williams will join her sister, Venus, on the United States Fed Cup team that will face Belgium in the World Group Quarterfinal at the Delray Beach Stadium & Tennis Center in Delray Beach, Fla., on April 21-22.

Tickets for the two-day, best-of-five match series are on sale to the general public and can be purchased by calling (888) 334-USTA (8782).  Tickets will be sold as a two-day series with prices ranging from $35 to $225, with VIP packages available.  The event is being organized, staged and promoted by the USTA.

Williams is fresh off her eighth Grand Slam singles title at the Australian Open, where she was only the second unseeded woman to win the championship.  The former No. 1 player has raised her ranking from No. 81 to No. 15 in the world.

“We are thrilled to have Serena back on the U.S. Fed Cup team, especially after her tremendous victory at the Australian Open,” said Garrison, who has until 10 days prior to the start of the quarterfinal to name the remaining two members of her team.  “The last time both Serena and Venus were on the court for a U.S. Fed Cup team was 2003, so it will be an exciting time to see the sisters together again.”

Williams is 6-0 overall in Fed Cup play (3-0 singles; 3-0 in doubles). She made her Fed Cup debut in the 1999 semifinal and helped the United States win the title that year, defeating Russia in the final.   Her last appearance in Fed Cup was the 2003 first round against the Czech Republic, Tsongas Arena, Lowell, Mass.

Fed Cup by BNP Paribas is the world’s largest annual international team competition for women with 89 countries competing this year.  The ITF has final approval rights for all site selections.  The U.S. is one of eight nations comprising the 2007 Fed Cup World Group.
