Beach Tennis Shares Stage at Sony Ericsson Open

February 27, 2007 09:05 AM

NEW YORK, Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Beach Tennis USA, the organization promoting the sport of beach tennis throughout North America announced it will be holding a weeklong series of demonstrations at the 2007 Sony Ericsson Open, March 21- April 1, at the Tennis Center at Crandon
Park in Miami, Florida.

Beach tennis, which was launched in the U.S. as a pro and recreational sport in 2005 by New York real estate developer Marc Altheim, combines tennis and beach volleyball into one exciting and fast-paced game. Played on a regulation beach volleyball court, two players on each team use standard tennis rackets to hit a depressurized tennis ball back and forth over the net without letting it bounce.

At the Sony Ericsson Open, Beach Tennis USA will hold demonstrations as well as instructional free play at the Fila Family Zone, an interactive area for fans at the Tennis Center. There is no fee to play and racquets and balls are provided courtesy of Head and Penn, official equipment suppliers of Beach Tennis USA.

Beach Tennis USA will kick off its 2007 National Tour in Delray Beach, Fla. on the weekend of March 16-17. The nine-city tour also includes tournaments in Ft. Lauderdale (April 7-8) and Miami (May 5-6). For more information, or to register for the tournaments, visit http://www.beachtennisusa.net.
