March 14, 2007 09:01 AM

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., March 13, 2007 - The USTA announced a record sell-out for the 2007 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Quarterfinal between the United States and Spain at Winston-Salem’s Joel Coliseum, April 6-8.  The capacity for the venue is 14,453, making it the highest attended Davis Cup in the United States in over 15 years and the third highest attended Davis Cup in U.S. history.

“Everything is in place for a memorable Davis Cup weekend,” said Arlen Kantarian, Chief Executive, Professional Tennis, USTA.  “We are thrilled that tennis fans from around the country and throughout the Winston-Salem area have supported this event.”

Play begins at 2 p.m. each day in the three-day, best of five match series.  Two singles matches will be played on Friday.  The doubles match is featured Saturday and two “reverse” singles matches are scheduled for Sunday.  The match is expected to feature three of the top six singles players in the world.  No. 3 Andy Roddick and No. 6 James Blake have been mainstays on the U.S. Davis Cup team along with the world’s No. 1 doubles team, Bob and Mike Bryan.  No. 2 Rafael Nadal is expected to represent Spain.

Local organizers have planed a full week of activities in conjunction with the Davis Cup Quarterfinal, including street clinics, cardio tennis exhibitions and a concert in downtown Winston-Salem.

Versus will air live coverage daily at 2 p.m. ET and The Tennis Channel will air a primetime rebroadcast each evening beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

AIG is the official sponsor of the U.S. Davis Cup team.  Wilson is the official ball of the U.S. Davis Cup team.
