Tennis and Rockin’ Blues

The sport of Tennis is joining forces with rockin' blues bands to celebrate the new game of tennis, One-on-One Doubles! The USTA Florida section, based out of Daytona Beach, Fla., has just recently sanctioned One-on-One Doubles for adult competition.

On Saturday, April 28th from 1-7pm, Buckhorn Springs Golf and Tennis Club will host its first Tennis and Rockin’ Blues event.  Tennis and Music fans will be treated to some great tennis and a live performance by The Walker Smith Group, winners of the Memphis Beale St. International Blues Competition. The band will also be performing at the Tampa Bay Blues Festival on Sunday, May 6th.

The Tennis portion of the day kicks off at 1:00pm with a 15-minute on-court presentation by Coach Ed Krass, Executive Director, One-on-One Doubles and Coach Kelly Jones, former #1 ATP Ranked Doubles Player.  A 30-minute Pro One-on-One Doubles Exhibition will feature Kelly Jones, Tami-Whitlinger Jones, former #41 WTA Touring Pro, Tamer El-Sawai, former ATP Touring Pro and Whitney Kraft, USTA National Men's 45s Grasscourt Doubles Finalist and Director of Operations, One-on-One Doubles.

From 2-4pm, a junior and adult One-on-One Doubles Competition will take place for all tennis participants. All players must be rated 3.5NTRP or higher to play.  Prizes will be awarded to the event's players.

From 4-7pm, The Walker Smith Group will perform for the Tennis and Rockin’ Blues crowd.  Entry Fee is $20 for participating tennis players and $10 for Rockin' Blues Fans.  Entry fee includes a free dinner. A cash bar will sell beer and wine, and everyone is being asked to bring their own chair for the event.
