Delray Beach ITC USTA Membership Appreciation Day

February 21, 2008 03:40 PM

The Delray Beach ITC tournament was bittersweet for American fans as both James Blake (USA) and Bob/Mike Bryan (USA) lost in three sets during the singles and doubles championships on Sunday, February 17 at the Delray Beach Stadium and Tennis Center.  Yet, tournament goers still watched great matches from all players, including the youngest singles champion in the tournament's 16-year history, Kei Nishikori (JPN), and top finishing American players James Blake (USA), Bob/Mike Bryan (USA), Robby Ginepri (USA), Sam Querrey (USA), Mardy Fish (USA), Vincent Spadea (USA) and Robert Kendrick (USA).

The Delray Beach ITC not only marked the first big career title for Kei Nishikori (JPN), but also the first USTA Membership Appreciation Day (MAD) in 2008 for USTA members in Florida.  USTA Florida set up a membership booth at the pro tournament and welcomed hundreds to sign up for a USTA membership and enjoy USTA Membership Appreciation Day from 2:00p.m. – 3:30p.m. on Tuesday, February 12.  Throughout the week, members stopped by the booth for a free USTA gift, renewed their USTA memberships and received great on-site USTA t-shirts, hats, car seat covers and jackets, and took in a complimentary full meal with pasta and hot dogs during USTA Membership Appreciation Day.  A total of 101 people renewed, extended or became new members of the USTA at Delray, including a father who signed his young

son up for a USTA life membership!

“It’s a pleasure meeting all our USTA members and getting the opportunity to meet and greet everyone,” said Trina Singian, USTA Florida Marketing & Membership Coordinator.

“I appreciate them giving back to the game we all love, and hope to see more faces next month during the Sony Ericsson Open!”

This year, USTA Membership Appreciation Day fell during the week of Valentine’s Day, which added a nice PINK theme to the day’s festivities.  Special thanks go out to pros David Martin (USA) and Scott Lipsky (USA), who signed autographs and chatted with members during Membership Appreciation Day.  USTA Florida also had the support of a wonderful staff who lent a hand all week long.

“We had a great set of staff, volunteers and interns throughout the week who helped make the tournament a great success,” said Singian.  “Their friendly faces and willingness to help is truly appreciated.”

USTA membership booth volunteers included Jordan Heath, Mikaela Seger, Ben Lecomte, Kristin Stickney, Adam Ross, Cheryl Rivera, Janet Sprague, Jon Evans, Phil Caplan.  USTA Membership Appreciation Day volunteers included Nancy Skiles, Debra Brower, Eva Swicegood, Shawn Quigley, Vicky Pallares, Ed Sol, Harriet Sol and Sandy Gottlieb.
