Krop tennis coach Mike Kypriss reached a milestone last Wednesday after he won his 1,000th match.

Kypriss has been coaching high school tennis for 27 years in Miami-Dade County and his teams have captured 12 state championships.

Kypriss coached the Killian tennis team for 17 years and has been at Krop for the past 10 seasons.

While at Killian, Kypriss won six girls' state championships and two boys' titles. In his 10 years at Krop, he has won three boys' titles and one girls' title.

Kypriss credits much of his success to having had the chance to coach great athletes and have good assistant coaches.

''We've had some incredibly talented players,'' Kypriss said. "I've had a lot of great talent, great support in the community and a great assistant [Damon Halback].''

In the past 27 years Kypriss coached two players that played professionally on the ATP, current University of Miami women's' tennis coach Paige Yaroshuk and has sent more than 100 players to play for college teams.
