USTA Florida Extends Contract with Section Magazine

June 13, 2008 02:01 PM

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Play Tennis Florida magazine, the Official Magazine of USTA Florida as of January 2008, has been granted a contract extension by USTA Florida through December 2009.

"We look forward to many years to come of Play Tennis Florida helping us reach our membership goals and spreading the word of the continued growth in grassroots and recreational tennis in the state, even in these tough economic times," said USTA Florida Executive Director Doug Booth. "The numbers of new players and new facilities continues to rise, and we want to continue to spread the word."

Play Tennis Florida is the only Florida tennis publication delivered in-home monthly to the 50,000 USTA Florida members, country clubs, tennis facilities, organizations and businesses.

"The response from readers and advertisers in the first six months since the re-launch has been wonderful," said Play Tennis Florida Publisher Richard Vach. "Tennis is approaching the boom times not seen since the late 1970s and early 1980s, and tennis remains one of the most affluent demographics to reach. Numbers are up nationwide in racquet and ball sales, the French Open coverage this year on ESPN2 showed a 24% boost, tennis has outgrown every other sport in participation over the last seven years, and statistics point to those numbers continuing to rise."

The June issue of Play Tennis Florida featured Floridian Mardy Fish, who earlier this year toppled world No. 1 Roger Federer at Indian Wells. The cover story for the July issue of Play Tennis Florida will feature the story of an extraordinary wheelchair tennis-playing junior, as well as a feature on the ever-expanding McMullen Tennis Center in Clearwater, and a sneak peek at the new USTA Florida-sponsored tennis license plate that will soon be available.
