QuickStart Tennis Coordinators Hired

June 26, 2008 03:35 PM

USTA Florida is pleased to announce the hiring of six QuickStart Tennis Coordinators covering four regions in the state of Florida.  The goal of the new coordinators is to recruit tennis and non-tennis facilities, both private and public, to adopt the QuickStart Tennis format of play, officially introduced by the USTA in February 2008.

“The QuickStart format of play means smaller courts, slower balls, lighter racquets, lower nets, simplified scoring and shorter matches,” said Jodi Manning, USTA Florida Team Tennis Coordinator.  “The QuickStart Tennis Coordinators are going to be a great resource for facilities to utilize and will help them not only integrate the new format of play, but make it an official USTA Jr. Team program using the TennisLink online system.”

QuickStart Tennis is the new USTA format of play within USTA Jr. Team Tennis offered in two age groups: 8 and under and 10 and under.  The QuickStart Tennis play format, one of the most significant moves ever to introduce tennis to youth, provides a way to bring kids 10 and under into the game by utilizing equipment, court dimensions, and scoring that is tailored to their age and size.

Marketing resources and materials will be provided by the USTA and USTA Florida for all QuickStart Tennis Coordinators to share with local facilities.  The coordinators will also help coordinate Recreational QuickStart Tennis Workshops for facilities, which is a pre-requisite to any sites offering QuickStart formats of play.

“One of the strategic priorities of the organization is to continue to promote and develop tennis at the grassroots level,” said Andy McFarland, USTA Florida associate executive director.  “We believe QuickStart Tennis will bring more kids into the game at a young age and help ensure that children enjoy their experiences at local facilities throughout the state and leave wanting to play the game more.”
