John MacDonald Named PTR Tester of the Year

February 24, 2009 10:57 AM

Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented its annual awards this week to nine of its 13,300 members during the 2009 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes 60-plus on court and classroom presentations, a tennis trade show and $25,000 Championships, is being held February 14-20, 2009, at Van der Meer Shipyard Racquet Club on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

John MacDonald of Port Orange, FL, one of 195 PTR testers world-wide, has been named 2009 PTR Tester of the Year. A certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and Wilson Sporting Goods Tennis Advisory Staff for more than 30 years, MacDonald has been a PTR certified Professional, Tester and Clinician for only the past three.  He conducted and tested ten PTR Certification Workshops in the United States, including one in Daytona Beach at the Florida Tennis Center, in 2008 alone.  Even more important, his teaching methods, style and attention to detail are unrivaled. As a former educator, MacDonald employs that experience in all of his workshops. He has made a lasting impression on the PTR and PTR certification workshops and testing in a short period of time.

MacDonald’s passion for tennis lead him to the United States Tennis Association, Florida Section (USTA Florida) in 2005 where he served as USTA Florida’s School Tennis Coordinator for three years.  In his role, he took the USTA Schools Program in Florida to new heights and helped introduce tennis to hundreds of thousands of children via physical education and after-school programming. He remains a part of the association as a Recreational Tennis Council member.
