Sherry Beckman Appointed Executive Director of USTA Florida Section Foundation

USTA Florida Section Foundation has announced the appointment of Sherry Beckman of Palm Beach Gardens as the first Executive Director for the organization. The USTA Florida Section Foundation was established in 2004 to assist charitable organizations in operating tennis programs for Florida’s youth and special needs populations, along with building and renovating public tennis courts.

Ms. Beckman brings to the position more than 17 years of experience at both the national and section level with the United States Tennis Association. She has also served as Executive Director of the R.A. Bloch Cancer Management Center and The Cancer Hotline in Kansas City, Mo., as well as the Executive Director of the Executive Women’s Golf Association in West Palm Beach. She retired in February 2007 as the Director of Marketing and Membership for USTA Florida, a position she had held since 1997.

Jean Mills, President of USTA Florida Section Foundation said, “We are fortunate to have Sherry as our first Executive Director. Sherry is not only one of the most knowledgeable people in the country in all aspects of tennis, but she is well liked and respected throughout the industry. I am confident under her leadership and with her contacts, the USTA Florida Section Foundation will truly make a difference in the lives of many Floridians for years to come."

A Florida Tennis license plate, “Play Tennis!" is now available for purchase at the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles. The proceeds from the plate will allow the USTA Florida Section Foundation to make an important impact on tennis facilities and programs that develop self-esteem and human potential for all Floridians, regardless of age, ability, and background. Among Ms. Beckman’s initial responsibilities will be the marketing and promotion of this license tag.

“Tennis has been my lifelong passion,” Beckman said. “I am truly honored to be in a position to assist the USTA Florida Section Foundation in the important work of ‘improving the health and quality of life of Floridians through tennis.’ This is a great opportunity to give back to the game that has so positively shaped my life.”
