DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., May 8, 2009 -- USTA Florida today announced that Rick Vach has joined the staff as Communications Coordinator, effective May 7. He replaces Tori Townsend, who will remain on staff in a training capacity through May before leaving USTA Florida to pursue other opportunities.

Vach is a former tennis magazine editor and publisher, as well as the former publications editor for the ATP Tour.

"We are excited to bring on Rick's communications expertise at an exciting time for USTA Florida as we move forward with several new communications, internet and marketing initiatives," USTA Florida Director of Resource Division Jose Medina said. "He brings new ideas, combined with current campaigns that will directly impact USTA Florida members in the coming year."

In addition to 15 years of tennis industry work and freelance tennis writing, including a first-place honor from the U.S. Tennis Writers Association, Vach is also a former high school Journalism Teacher of the Year and district-level communications specialist for Duval County Public Schools.

"Tennis is a passion for so many Floridians, with approximately 2 million players in the state, and it has always been a passion of mine," Vach said. "Tennis remains the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., and that added to the current growth initiatives make this an exciting time to be involved."
