Florida Senior Games Tennis Qualifying Tournaments

August 20, 2009 07:00 PM
Seven Florida cities will hold Florida Senior Games State Championships tennis qualifying events in September through November, all leading to the State Championships tennis event on Dec. 8-13, 2009, at Florida Gulf Coast University and Rutenburg Community Park in Ft. Myers.

"For those Florida senior tennis players who haven't qualified for the Florida Senior Games State Championships, or are just looking for a chance to warm-up before the state championships, there are still plenty of chances to compete this fall," said Kevin A. Bryan, event coordinator, Florida Sports Foundation & Florida Sports Charitable Foundation.

The Pensacola Senior Games tennis event is the first of seven Local Senior Games qualifying opportunities beginning on Sept. 22 (see list below).

Singles matches at the State Championships will be played Tuesday, Dec. 8 and Wednesday, Dec. 9, followed by doubles on Thursday, Dec. 10 and Friday, Dec. 11. Mixed Doubles wraps up the competition on Saturday, Dec. 12 and Sunday, Dec. 13. All matches will start at 8 a.m. each day.

The Top 5 finishers in each age group at Local Games Qualifying sites are eligible to register for the State Championships. Participants that qualify for one tennis event at a Local Games event are eligible for all tennis events at the Florida Senior Games State Championships. The 2010 Florida Senior Games State Championships IS NOT a qualifier for the 2011 National Senior Games in Houston.

Tennis entry fee is $25 for the first event and $5 for each additional event. Entry fee includes a State Championships t-shirt. All entries must be received by Nov. 16, 2009 or register online by Nov. 20, 2009 at www.flasports.com.

More than 2,000 Florida senior athletes are expected to compete in 22 sports in this the 18th Annual Florida Senior Games State Championships.
