Florida Tennis Cup Kicks Off 2009-2010 Season

August 28, 2009 07:00 PM
The Florida Tennis Cup, the unique series of tennis tournaments designed to be played in one day (or two days depending on the number of entries), kicks off the 2009-2010 season in September with four tournaments.

September events include Sept. 5 at the Boca Pointe Country Club in Boca Raton, Sept. 12 at The Fountains in Lake Worth, Sept. 19 in Miami at Key Biscayne, and Sept. 26 at J. Moore Park in Melbourne.

"The Florida Tennis Cup is a series of fun, fast-paced, recreational tennis tournaments," says Rami Mayron, director, Florida Tennis Cup. "Our purpose is to encourage a fun environment for the recreational tennis player to compete at a local level and advance to state finals. Player fees are kept to a minimum due to the help of tournament sponsors and our partnership with USTA Florida."

No membership in any organization or club is required in order to play in Florida Tennis Cup tournaments. Each division in any tournament is limited to the first 32 registrants. The doubles tournament format is an 8-game pro set with a regular tiebreak if the set scoring advances to 7-all.

The final event of the season is Feb. 20, 2010 at the Jonesville Tennis Center in Gainesville. Doubles teams that accumulated a minimum of 40 points (reaching a tournament final or winning two rounds) during the 2009-2010 season earn the right to advance to the Florida Tennis Cup finals, held March 20-21 at the Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton.
