Indian River Jr. Team Tennis Kick-offs

September 21, 2009 07:00 PM

The Jr. Team Tennis season begins in Indian River when the Vero Beach Tennis Club and the Lawnwood Tennis Complex in Ft. Pierce each hold USTA Florida Jr. Team Tennis kick-off events during the first week of October.

The Lawnwood Tennis Complex in Ft. Pierce will host an Advanced Division kick-off on Oct. 1, 2009, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Vero Beach Tennis Club will host an Intermediate Division kick-off on Oct. 2, 2009, beginning at 6 p.m.

"We are excited about expanding our league for the first time to include an Advanced Division," said USTA Florida Tennis Program Coordinator Janet Sprague. "Now with the new ranking points added for Jr. Team Tennis as an incentive, we hope to get many advanced players joining the league."

USTA Florida age groups in the Indian River region are Under-18, U14, U12, with intermediate, and advanced levels. Team Aces is the defending champion, last year ending the season with a 6-2 record.

USTA Florida Jr. Team Tennis is designed for kids ages 5-18, and brings kids together in teams to play singles, doubles and mixed doubles against other teams. It promotes social skills and important values by fostering a spirit of cooperation and unity, as well as individual self-growth. Also, it's a fun environment for kids in which they learn that succeeding is really more about how they play the game -- win or lose.

Participation Fees: a league fee of $35 includes the Season Opening Event, a Niki Dri-Fit Jersey, balls, court fees and the season-ending awards event (does not include USTA Membership -- not a member? Log onto www.usta.com and click on membership $18 annual dues!)

Dates and Sign-up Deadline: Fall Season Opening Events -- bring your initial rosters or individual players to sign up. Players can be added throughout the season.
