Florida's Van Nostrand, Meyerdierks Win Gold Balls at National 75-80 Claycourts

Top-seeded King Van Nostrand of Vero Beach, Fla., brought home a gold ball as the singles champion in the Men's 75s division at the USTA National Men's 75 & 80 Clay Court Championships, held Aug. 24-30, 2009, in Virginia Beach, Va.

Van Nostrand failed to drop more than one game in any set en route to the championship match, defeating No. 5 seed Gordon Hammes of Durham, N.C., 6-1, 6-1 in the final.

His wife, Boots Van Nostrand, captured the USTA National Women's 75 Clay Court singles championship in Texas back in March.

In the Men's 80s division, top-seeded Clement Hopp Sarasota, Fla., won the 3rd/4th place playoff, defeating fellow Floridian Bob Meyerdierks of St. Petersburg 6-1, 6-1 after each lost in the semifinals.

Meyerdierks then teamed with Anthony Franco of Briarcliff, N.Y., as the top seeds, defeating the all-Florida team of Leonard Bunge of Bonita Springs and James MacKey of St Petersburg, the No. 2 seeds, 7-5, 6-4 in the final.
