4 Florida Players Sweep Singles-Doubles at USTA Summer Smash in Delray Beach

Eight boys and girls singles champions, seven from Florida, were crowned over the weekend at the USTA Summer Smash Regional Championships hosted by the City of Delray Beach. More than 1,200 matches were played in boys and girls 12-18 singles and doubles.

Four Florida players swept both the singles and doubles titles in their division.

In the 18s division, top-seeded Zachary Katz of Boca Raton won the boys' title, defeating Hunter Callahan of Lower Gwynedd, Penn., 6-2, 6-4. Jan Abaza of Deerfield Beach captured the girls' title, beating Frances Altick of Monroe, La., 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 in the final.

Katz also won the Boys' 18 doubles title with partner Alexander Robles of Naples.

No. 4 seed Ognjen Samardzic of Bradenton won the Boys' 16 title, defeating No. 9-seeded Robert Livi of Miramar 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the final. No. 3-seeded Samantha Crawford of Tamarac won the Girls' 16 title, topping Miramar's Sophia Dzulynsky in the final 6-3, 6-3.

The Boys' 14 title was won by top-seeded Stefan Kozlov of Pembroke Pines, who defeated No. 3-seeded Romario Francis of Miami 6-3, 6-3. No. 3-seeded Julia O’Loughlin of Boca Raton won the Girls' 14 title, beating No. 9 seed Nikki Kallenberg of Naples 7-5, 6-1 in the final. Kozlov also won the Boys' 14 doubles title with Francis, and O'Loughlin won the Girls' 14 title with partner Remi Ramos of Parkland.

Michael Plutt of Weston swept the singles and doubles title in the Boys' 12s, as the No. 2 seed defeating top-seeded Nikola Samardzic of Bradenton 6-3, 6-1 in the singles final. In the doubles he teamed with Adam Ambrozy of South Pasadena, defeating his brother Scott Plutt and partner in the final. No. 2-seeded Kellyn Abbanat was runner-up in the Girls' 12 singles, losing to No. 3 seed Maria Smith of Houston, Tex.
