Hurricane Survivor Cronley Joins USTA Florida as League Coordinator

October 21, 2009 07:00 PM
Sherry Cronley, the newest USTA Florida adult local league coordinator (LLC) for the Emerald Coast (Panhandle) region, knows about building things from the ground up. The former Mississippi resident saw her home reduced to a cement slab during Hurricane Katrina, losing nearly all her belongings.

A retired schoolteacher and avid tennis player who plays nine (9!) times a week, Cronley has lived and played USTA tennis in the Southern Section states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Mississippi, as well as Virginia in the Mid-Atlantic Section.

She relocated to Ft. Walton Beach in the Panhandle 18 months ago after attempting to rebuild her life and home, after living in a FEMA trailer provided by the government.

Crowley say she and her husband Tony love the Ft. Walton Beach area and of course the tennis, and she is looking forward to seeing USTA Florida adult leagues grow in the Emerald Coast region.

"We are very excited to have Sherry working with USTA Florida in the Emerald Coast," said George English, USTA tennis program coordinator (TPC) for the Panhandle region. "Her energy, enthusiasm, and love of tennis are just the right components for a local league coordinator. With Sherry overseeing the USTA Florida Adult Men's and Women's Leagues, we should see a noticeable increase in tennis participation in the area."
