Oudin to Appear at 2010 WTA Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Tennis

October 4, 2009 07:00 PM
Melanie Oudin, who captivated tennis fans with her Cinderella quarterfinal run as an unseeded player at the 2009 US Open, has committed to the field for the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour 2010 MPS Group Championships, held April 5-11, 2010, at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

The 18 year old from Georgia became the youngest American woman to reach the quarterfinal of any Grand Slam since Serena Williams at this year's US Open, defeating Maria Sharapova among others before finally being felled by Caroline Wozniacki.

Wozniacki won the Ponte Vedra Beach title earlier this year, the first year of the event since it relocated from Amelia Island, Fla.

"The last few weeks have been amazing," Oudin said after her US Open run. "My experience at the Open has me excited about the level of my game and the upcoming 2010 season. I am excited to play The MPS Group Championships in April. I enjoyed playing the event this past April as a qualifier and look forward to trying to capture my first title. It's also fun for me to play close to home."

Oudin resides in Marietta, Ga., where she was also born.

"It will be so exciting for fans to witness Melanie first hand. She captured the hearts of millions of fans across the country with her brilliant play," said WTA Ponte Vedra Beach Tournament Director John Arrix. "With her scrappy style of play and beaming personality, Melanie has huge potential and I am sure she'll be a Ponte Vedra fan favorite in the 2010 draw. Melanie is a rising American superstar and great for the game of tennis."
