Ginger Ayers explains league rule changes for 2010

The Sarasota, Naples and Lee/Charlotte areas held USTA Florida captains meetings in early October for fall men's and women's leagues beginning in South Florida.

USTA Florida Local League Coordinator Ginger Ayres of Region 5 held the fall captains meeting for all of the women's leagues at The Meadows Country Club in Sarasota on Sept. 8, 2009.

"There were more than 50 captains in attendance as well as the new Flex League League Tennis Organizer Martina Waluk-Gaertner, and the Men's Local League Coordinator Mike Guelker," said USTA Florida Tennis Program Coordinator Susie Bessire, who serves Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee and Collier counties. "The captains were informed of the rule changes for 2010 and given all of the information for the Fall Early Start Leagues, Flex Leagues, as well as the 2010 leagues. It was a packed house as many more captains attended than were anticipated."

USTA Florida Naples Local League Coordinators Bob Baker and Linda Kleitch held their Fall Early Start and 2010 captains meeting at Hodges University on Oct. 3, 2009.

"It was a packed room with 60 captains in attendance," Bessire said. "Several of the captains have been returning captains for 15 to 20 years and they were acknowledged during the meeting. There were also some first-time captains. Bob and Linda had TennisLink up and running to be able to show the captains anything they were having problems with."

In the Lee/Charlotte region, USTA Florida Local League Coordinators Kevin Gaines, Jon and Donna McVety, and Barb Perry held a fall captains meeting at the Fort Myers Racquet Club on Oct. 7, 2009.

"Information on the Early Start Leagues, Flex Leagues as well as the 2010 leagues was given to all the captains," Bessire said. "The captains were treated to snacks and drinks as well as drawings for USTA prizes."
