New Play Tennis License Needs SunPass Alert

Got your new Play Tennis Florida license plate? If you also use the SunPass pre-paid toll program, make sure you alert SunPass at the phone number 1-888-865-5352 or it could result in a hefty fine if your car is flagged due to your license plate not matching SunPass' database information.

You can also update your info by logging into your account on www.sunpass.com, going to 'my account,' then 'edit,' and add or delete a vehicle. Under 'edit vehicle' you can change your license plate number.

"Everyone who changed his or her license plate to get a Play Tennis license plate must record that transaction with SunPass," says USTA Florida Section Foundation Executive Director Sherry Beckman. "Just like when you get a new car, one needs to let SunPass know that you have a new vehicle, and that is true also with a new license plate number."

Still don't have your Play Tennis Florida license? Play Tennis Florida licenses support the USTA Florida Section Foundation, which assists organizations with youth and special needs tennis programs, builds and renovated public tennis courts, and generally seeks to improve the health and quality of life for Floridians through tennis.

Celebrity Florida Tennis in the National News

First Lady Michelle Obama put tennis in the spotlight last month, on the Jay Leno Show talking about her battles with husband and President Barack Obama, who she says gets the best of her. Now Ocala, Fla., resident and actor John Travolta, who has been spending the majority of his time in his house following the untimely death of his 16-year-old son Jett earlier this year, has taken to the game in earnest.

"I took up tennis, I play every day. I play at midnight -- kinda vampire style," Travolta said on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. "The house manager and the house maintenance person, they both live my hours, so at midnight we go to the local tennis court. They're good."

The Travoltas own several homes but make Ocala their primary residence. The Travolta home is located within the gated community Jumbolair Aviation Estates which has its own airstrip as Travolta is a flying enthusiast and owns several planes.

QuickStart Tennis 10-and-under Format Spreading
The swishing sound of a racket cutting through the air is quickly replaced with the thwack of a beanbag as it solidly hits the strings and bounces back across the net. Ponte Vedra is no stranger to tennis as it is home to professional tennis tournaments and a multitude of tennis centers. Now, with the help of the Winston Family YMCA, tennis in Ponte Vedra is getting a little makeover with the introduction of the QuickStart tennis program.

"QuickStart is the new format for kids 10-and-under and is currently being used at more then 1,200 facilities across the U.S.," said Amanda Becker, USTA Florida tennis program coordinator.
