Bryans No. 1 Tennis Tandem, Eyeing No. 1 on Music Charts

December 7, 2009 06:00 PM
At the age of 31, when most tennis professionals have entered their retirement years, the Bryan brothers are just warming up -- finishing 2009 ranked No. 1, eying the all-time doubles title record in 2010, and releasing their first music album.

In late November the twins, who maintain a training base in the Tampa/Saddlebrook area along with U.S. Davis Cup compatriots James Blake and Mardy Fish, won the ATP World Tour Doubles Finals title at the O2 Arena in London, rising from the No. 2 ranking to finish as the year-end No. 1 team. It was the third time in six appearances that the Bryans have won the year-end doubles title, and the fifth time in the last seven years they have finished the season ranked No. 1.

"It means so much," said Bob Bryan, who last year witnessed himself and his brother losing the No. 1 ranking at the year-end championship. "It's pretty much what we play for now. That's the goal. Play well in the Slams, but the ultimate goal is to finish No. 1...We felt like it was stolen from us last year."

The Bryan brothers have now won 56 ATP World Tour career doubles titles, including seven Grand Slam championships and three ATP Tour Finals Championships, and are only five titles away from matching the all-time title record of 61 won by Aussies Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde ("The Woodies").

At the end of November the Bryan Bros Band, featuring David Baron, released their debut album "Let It Rip," available on iTunes and featuring the single "Autograph" that includes rap cameos by Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

"We've had so much fun working on this album over the past year," Bob Bryan said. "Like tennis, music has been a big part of our lives since a very young age. And we're really excited to have our buddies, Andy and Novak, on our most recent track, 'Autograph.'"

Bob Bryan added, "It's their rapping debuts and we hope tennis fans enjoy this light-hearted jam."

The Bryan Bros Band Featuring David Baron made their debut appearance at the 2009 US Open Arthur Ashe Kids' Day, and at the Mercury Lounge in New York City last September, and in 2010 will perform at the Viper Room in Los Angeles on February 3rd, amongst other shows still being finalized.
