USTA Stipends Available for Tennis Campus Showdowns

December 14, 2009 06:00 PM
What is the one event that provides competition open to all college players, juniors, adults, and even teaching or touring professionals? It's the USTA Campus Showdown, a one-day, short-format tournament with one-set matches and a tiebreak at 5-5 in a compass draw for singles and doubles.

Events can be men's, women's, or coed, and the tournaments are run on college campuses with the college coach acting as tournament director.

No officials are needed as tournaments are are non-sanctioned and non-ranking events, and entry fees are kept low to provide access to a full range of players.

The United State Tennis Association's office of Junior and Collegiate Competition will provide staff support to handle questions and paperwork, coordinate dates with USTA State/Sectional Staff liaison, promote events on USTA Sectional and National websites, and provide a stipend of $150 after completion of the event.

The USTA Campus Showdown is a great way to bring together the tennis community, and give college players and juniors a great experience against a range of competition. It is also a great way to give juniors exposure to a college campus and the college tennis setting.

The University of West Florida in Pensacola will be hosting a co-ed USTA Campus Showdown on Jan. 16, 2010.
