While the Orange Bowl and Eddie Herr in Florida take the international tennis junior stage in December, the month of January is reserved for Les Petits As in France and the Aegon Teen Tennis event in England, and the USTA Training Center in Boca Raton has begun releasing names for the U.S. travel squad that will compete overseas in early 2010.

Les Petits As (translation: Small Champions) is for players aged 12-14, held in Tarbes, France. Former Les Petits As champions that went on to win Grand Slam titles include Rafael Nadal, Michael Chang, Martina Hingis and Kim Clijsters.

At last year's Aegon Teen Tennis, which features 14-and-under players, Sachia Vickery won the all-Florida final over Victoria Duval.

This month the USTA held a round robin tournament to decide some of the spots on the U.S. European boys travel team. Pembroke Pines' Stefan Kozlov, 11 years old, earned a spot on the team, as did Spencer Furman of Washington state. USTA coaches also chose two players to the squad, Paul and Noah Rubin of New York.

Kozlov won the Boys 12s at the Eddie Herr and in October won the 12s title at the Nike Junior Tour's International Masters competition in the Dominican Republic.

The U.S. girls' travel team is still undecided, but will have a lot to live up to following last year's 14-under results posted by the squad of Florida's Vickery and Duval, and Indianapolis' Brooke Austin.
