USTA Florida's 60th Anniversary Celebration and the Foundation Fundraising Weekend Yields Fun, Funds

On the weekend of Dec. 4-6, 2009, USTA Florida celebrated a landmark in its 60-year history -- "60 years of Love" were celebrated along with the retirement of junior tennis icon Bobby Curtis after 30 years of dedicated service to Florida tennis at the USTA Florida Annual Meeting.

Saturday was Fundraising Day for the USTA Florida Section Foundation, the charitable arm of USTA Florida. Founded in 2004, the Foundation values tennis programs that develop self-esteem and human potential for all Floridians, regardless of age and ability. It is the Foundation's belief that tennis provides opportunities for healthy social, emotional, physical and educational development and encourages peer and family participation.

Activities on Saturday included a Silent Auction, Casino night, and the Raffle Drawing for the Second Annual US Open Fundraiser. There were four thrilled winners enjoying four fabulous prizes:

The third place winner is Kathy Campbell from Melbourne. She will enjoy a two-night stay at the beautiful Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood Florida and a round of golf for her and her guest.

The second place winner is Peter Slaynasky of Port St. Lucie, who will have Courtside Box Seats at the 2010 US Open.

Enjoying the Grand Prize, a VIP trip for two to the 2010 US Open President's Box, including a two-night hotel stay and airfare to New York City, will be Lee Beneke of Safety Harbor.

Winning the special drawing for those that helped sell tickets by selling an entire book was Nancy Ross of Palm Beach Gardens. She is getting ready to enjoy a trip to the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.

The Foundation wishes to thank all those who purchased raffle tickets and helped make this campaign a great success.  For those that didn't win, we appreciate your support, and hope that you will participate again next year. The Foundation also wishes to thank all those who purchased gifts at the Silent Auction, ads in the Program Book, and most specially, the donors of all our Silent Auction gifts (see donor list below).

More than $25,000 was raised to support the USTA Florida Section Foundation in the important work of improving the health and quality of life of Floridians through tennis. It will allow the Foundation to assist charitable organizations in operating tennis programs for Florida's youth and special-needs populations, along with building and renovating public tennis courts.
