USTA Florida Flex Sweepstakes Winners; Largest U.S. Flex Tennis Participation

January 12, 2010 06:00 PM
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Jan. 13, 2010 -- Three Florida winners were named in the USTA Flex League Sweepstakes, for players competing in the recent USTA Flex League in July-Dec. 2009.

The three winners were Yetta Goolsby of Jacksonville ($500 gift certificate), Neeraj Vora of Doral ($300) and Amber Hill of Naples ($50).

"Wow! What a way to start off 2010!" said an excited Goolsby. "I love playing USTA tennis and really enjoyed playing in the USTA Flex League. It's great to have the opportunity to play more singles tennis matches. Thanks so much! What a surprise!"

All registered participants nationwide are automatically entered into the USTA Flex Leagues Sweepstakes held twice a year (in July, for players registered between Jan.-June, and in January, for players registered between July-Dec.).  Each USTA Flex Leagues Sweepstakes includes a Grand Prize US Open trip for two and several online tennis gift certificates ranging from $50-500.

Florida also leads all other USTA sections in USTA Flex League participation, accounting for 26% of participation across the U.S., ahead of the No. 2 Southern California Section.

"I am proud of our tennis program coordinators (TPCs) efforts with growing and promoting USTA Flex Leagues in 2009," said USTA Florida Assoc. Executive Director Andy McFarland. "I can only see Flex Leagues taking on more appeal in future years and thus offering another opportunity for play for our adult tennis players."

Orlando had the highest percentage of non-USTA member players trying the USTA Flex League of any city in the U.S., with Chicago and Manhattan a close second and third. Other Florida cities among the 22 cities nationwide with 100 or more total players were Naples, Miami-Dade, Jacksonville, St. Pete/Clearwater, Sarasota and Palm Beach.
