Meet new people, make new friends of the opposite sex, have fun and play tennis in a beginner-to-intermediate level league -- sound like some of your new year's resolutions? Now they are all wrapped up in one.

A new USTA Florida Flex League, "Setless in Jacksonville," will kick off with a night of fun at 7 p.m. on Jan. 21, 2010, during the Thursday Night Drinking Club event at III Forks restaurant, on the corner of Southside Boulevard and Gate Parkway in Jacksonville.

Thursday Night Drinking Club is a monthly gathering offering Jacksonville's young professionals the opportunity to meet new people, get together with old friends, network, try new places, contribute to local worthy causes, and just have fun. The Jan. 21 event will be raising money for the Boys and Girls Club of Jacksonville, and with a $5 donation each person will receive a free drink and happy hour food prices all night. For more info see their website at http://www.thndc.com/0_1/home .

USTA Florida Flex League packages the thrills of organized league tennis into a flexible schedule so everyone, regardless of time constraints and ability, can play. Maybe you can't commit to every Wednesday at 8 p.m. Maybe Tuesday of next week works better for you -- or Thursday, the week after that. With Flex Leagues, it's your call. The Flex League format groups players of similar ability together in a league that allows participants to schedule matches on their own terms.

The Setless in Jacksonville league will be co-ed doubles-only for ages 21-40 for beginner and intermediate players. The Thursday Night Drinking Club event will also feature a QuickStart Tennis court in the bar area for adults to experience the new teaching format for children 10-and-under. QuickStart Tennis features a smaller court, net, racquets and foam balls to slow down the game for beginner players. A Flex League registration table will be set up and participants can sign-up for a free Wilson racquet and other give-aways. Other adult tennis Flex Leagues are available through the USTA Florida partner Jacksonville Scene at

"This league is going to be a great way for young professionals to play tennis, meet new people, and have fun," says Amanda Becker, USTA Florida tennis program coordinator for Northeast Florida. "The flexibility of it makes it perfect for any player at a beginner to intermediate level and it is one of the first tennis leagues ever to be offered that is co-ed."

Setless in Jacksonville league players will play approximately 6-8 matches in an eight-week period. For additional info contact USTA Florida Jacksonville Local Tennis Organizer Jodi Pfile at ustaflexjax@gmail.com. For general info on Flex Leagues go to www.ustaflex.com
