With an eye to attracting some of the top senior tennis players from around the world, the Super Senior Grand Prix (SSGP) has had four new tournaments approved for ITF sanctioning for 2010.

In the past only the Naples Sanchez/Casals Category II nationals has been an ITF sanctioned event, and this year it has been given a Level 2 status, one below the highest category reserved for Category I National Championships.

According to SSGP circuit chairman Larry Turville, "The idea is to make the Florida Super Senior Circuit an international circuit with players from all over the world competing. Having the ITF designation attracts players both U.S. and foreign looking for those world ranking points."

The four new ITF events are Mid Cape, Sterling Oaks, The Meadows, and St. Petersburg Country Club. This month the SSGP goes to the Mid Cape Racquet Club, following by Sterling Oak Country Club, and the Cat. II/Level 2 at Naples Sanchez/Casals.

"Having more tournaments in the U.S. available for ITF ranking points will also greatly improve the U.S. players' chances to build an ITF world ranking," Turville says. "With the ITF sanctioning the Florida SSGP is becoming an international circuit that attracts some of the best players in the world."

Expected to compete at the Sterling Oaks and Naples event is Peter Adrigan, the No. 1-ranked player in the world in the men's 65 rankings.

"Admission is free and all players are welcome to play if they think they're good enough," Turville says.
