Florida Yacht Club show off their QuickStart Tennis spirit in the
second of four jamborees in the Jacksonville area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jan. 12, 2010 --
A QuickStart Tennis Jamboree will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010 in Atlantic Beach, just outside of Jacksonville and north of Jacksonville Beach, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Selva Marina Country Club. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature various stations where kids ages 6-10 can get a first look at QuickStart Tennis and also the USTA Florida Jr. Team Tennis League.

It is the fourth in a series of free QuickStart Tennis jamborees taking place in the Jacksonville area in December-January to help kick off the first-ever 8-and-under USTA Florida Jr. Team Tennis League in the area.

Parents are encouraged to stay for the jamboree and learn more about the new QuickStart Tennis format and how to get their kids involved in the game.

"This is going to be a fun afternoon that no child is going to want to miss," says Amanda Becker, tennis program coordinator for USTA Florida, serving Duval, St. Johns, Nassau, and Clay counties. "QuickStart Tennis is like the T-Ball version of baseball and makes tennis a team sport."

The QuickStart Tennis format is a new way for kids 10-and-under to learn and play the game. The smaller court sizes, the racquet sizes, foam and decompressed balls, the scoring system, even the net height has been adjusted to ease kids into the sport.

"This new tennis format is tailor-made for kids," Becker says. "And when all these elements are used together, it truly works. Any child between ages five and 10 can start playing tennis almost immediately, even if he or she has never picked up a racquet before."

The QuickStart format stresses the importance of play and team competition, and since most kids love team sports, this new format is now part of the USTA Jr. Team Tennis League. Kids will now have the opportunity to play with their friends while developing their skills.
