Three Florida age division teams were victorious at the 2009 USTA National Women's Intersectional Team Event, held at the Naples Bath and Tennis Club in Naples, Fla. Florida teams won the 55s, 65s and 80s divisions in the competition that included divisions in the 35s, 45s, 55s, 65s, 75s and 80s age groups.

There were 325 players from 14 of the 17 USTA sections participating.

The Florida 55s team successfully defended their championship from last year, with the team comprised of Mary Ginnard, Kerry Young, Carol Clay (co-captain), Kathy Keating, Lil Peltz Petow and Cindy LePrevost (co-captain).

The Florida 55s team won the division without dropping a match.

The Florida 65s team defeated the seven-time champion Southern California section in the final, and was led by Donna Fales, former Wightman Cup and Fed Cup captain and player, Ria Graham and Jovette Levine in singles. The doubles teams were Fales and Margie Edmunds, Dorothy Wasser and Retsy Wilson, and Edmunds and Susan Martin.

Florida came in second in the 75s division, losing to the USTA Southern team in the finals 3-2. The Florida team consisted of Lucille Kyvallos, Louise Russ, Mimi Donegan and Audrey Cox.
The Florida team won the 80's division, successfully defending their title from last year. This team consisted of Louise Russ, Jane Lutz and Marilyn Skiffington, all former national age division champions.

"Larry Eichenbaum from Texas does an outstanding job of running this event which he has done for many years," said Florida captain Belmar Gunderson. "The tournament co-chairs, Karen Waterville and Char Sabin of the Naples Tennis Club and their committee did a wonderful job as well. This venue is one of the nicest in the United States and a great place to have such a large tournament. This tournament has the largest number of participants of any of our National tournaments."
