Florida's top juniors were active in late December and early January at the USTA National Winter Championships, with the 18s and 16s age groups in Scottsdale, Ariz., and the 14s and 12s played in Tucson, Ariz.

In the Girls 18 doubles final, No. 8-seeded Julie Sabacinski of Plantation and her California partner Britney Sanders captured the title with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory over the unseeded California pair of Katie Le/Jamie Pawid.

Sabacinski and Sanders will play for Notre Dame in 2010. Sabacinski was the 2008 National Open Doubles Champion and was a finalist with Sanders at the 2009 Spring National Doubles. A senior at American Heritage High School, Sabacinski trains at the Nick Saviano High Performance Tennis Academy, has been ranked as high as No. 17 nationally and won the 2008 Florida high school state championship.

The Bradenton-St. Pete pairing of No. 2-seeded Grayson Goldin and Alexander Saltiel finished runners-up in the Boys 14 doubles final, losing to the top-seeded Ohio-Michigan pairing of Yale Goldberg/Jack Murray 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

In the Girls 14 doubles 3rd/4th place playoff, Florida's unseeded Palm Coast-Palmetto Bay pairing of Kandis Legall and Rasheeda McAdoo lost to the No. 9-seeded Idaho-Georgia pairing of Mariana Gould/Hannah King 7-5, 6-3.

No. 15-seeded Nicole Melichar of Stuart finished fourth in the Girls 18s singles draw.

The Boys 18 and Girls 18 single champs at the USTA National Winter Championships were awarded wildcards into a men's or women's Futures-level pro event in 2010.
