Free Youth Tennis Event at Daytona Beach Florida Tennis Center

February 10, 2010 06:00 PM
Volusia County-area juniors age 10-and-under can participate in a free evening of tennis when the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach hosts a USTA Tennis Night in America celebration on March 1, 2010, from 5:30-7 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public, and will include pizza, prizes, games, and feature the QuickStart Tennis format of play.

QuickStart Tennis is tennis scaled to the size of the child, utilizing age-appropriate equipment, including smaller racquets, lower-bouncing balls and smaller courts that have kids immediately able to play long rallies, with a focus on fun rather than instruction. To see QuickStart Tennis in action go to http://consumers.quickstarttennis.com/

USTA Tennis Night in America/Youth Registration events are held across the U.S. during the last week of February, and culminate the night of March 1 with the BNP Paribas Showdown in Madison Square Garden, shown live on ESPN2, featuring tennis superstars Serena and Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters, and Svetlana Kuznetsova competing for the Billie Jean King Cup. Participants who sign-up at Youth Registration events also have the opportunity to enter an exclusive sweepstakes to win tickets to the 2010 US Open via www.tennisnight.com.

USTA Florida will be donating a portion of the proceeds from USTA Jr. Team Tennis league fee registrations from the USTA Tennis Night in America/Youth Registration events to the Red Cross for its relief efforts in Haiti. For every player registered during the events, $5 dollars will be contributed to the American Red Cross.

"It's become clear that the earthquake disaster in Haiti has, in some way, had an impact on many of us in Florida, if not directly then certainly emotionally," said USTA Florida President Donn Davis. "By donating part of the proceeds from our USTA Jr. Team Tennis League fee registration to the Red Cross, USTA Florida members will participate in the relief effort and maybe equally as important, deliver an important message to our kids about helping others in need."

USTA Youth Registration/Tennis Night in America is a grass-roots initiative from the USTA to grow tennis at the community level by promoting the fun and health benefits of tennis to youth. Information will also be available regarding middle school USTA Jr. Team Tennis and QuickStart Tennis leagues in Volusia County.

For more information and to RSVP for the Daytona Beach event, please call the Florida Tennis Center at (386) 671-8900 to register by Feb. 26, 2010.
