QuickStart Tennis Play Day at WTA MPS Group Chps. in Ponte Vedra

March 4, 2010 06:00 PM
USTA Florida and The MPS Group Championships will team to host a QuickStart Tennis Demo on April 6, USTA Appreciation Day at the tournament, from approximately 10-11:30 a.m., between the first and second matches of the day on stadium court.

A QuickStart Tennis demo will be held on the stadium court, then children and parents will be invited to the QuickStart kids' area near the concession venue where three QuickStart courts will be set up for play from 12-2 p.m.

"QuickStart Tennis is starting to grow really rapidly thoughout the Jacksonville area and doing this demo at the MPS Group Championships will just allow more people to be exposed to this great format of play to get kids started in the game," said USTA Florida Tennis Program Coordinator Amanda Becker. "The best part is that kids and parents won't just get to watch it in action, but also get to try it out themselves after the demo."

QuickStart Tennis is the USTA's new official play format for 10-and-under children learning tennis, designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing smaller racquets and slower balls, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size. QuickStart Tennis is divided into two different levels -- ages 8-and-under and ages 10-and-under. To see a video of QuickStart Tennis in action go to http://www.quickstarttennis.com.

"The MPS Group Championships always looks forward to ways to introduce the sport to young players," said MPS Group Championships Tournament Director John Arrix. "Featuring QuickStart Tennis at The MPS Group Championships is a natural way to support the USTA's  efforts as well as provide a fun opportunity to introduce the sport to the youth attending our tournament."
