West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach Hosting Free Youth Tennis Events

February 4, 2010 06:00 PM

FREE Youth Tennis Events will be held at sites in West Palm Beach, Boynton Beach and Delray Beach, Fla., during Feb. 26-March 1 as part of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Youth Registration at four local tennis venues. Kids will participate in games, experience QuickStart Tennis, and sign up for upcoming USTA Jr. Team Tennis leagues in 2010.

The events are free (the Delray Beach site is free with a paid adult admission ticket to the ITC ATP Tour event) and open to the public.

Host centers will be the Lake Lytal Tennis Courts (3645 Gun Club Road) in West Palm Beach on Feb. 26 at 5:30 p.m.; the "Kidz Day at the ITC" (200 W. Atlantic Ave) on Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. in Delray Beach during the ATP Delray Beach International Tennis Championships; at the South Olive Tennis Center on Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. (345 E. Summa Street) in West Palm Beach; and at the Caloosa Park Tennis Courts in Boynton Beach on March 1 at 4 p.m.

The USTA Youth Registration events culminate the night of March 1 with Tennis Night in America and the BNP Paribas Showdown in Madison Square Garden, shown live on ESPN2, when tennis superstars Serena and Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters, and Svetlana Kuznetsova compete for the Billie Jean King Cup. Participants who sign-up at a Youth Registration event will also have the opportunity to enter an exclusive sweepstakes to win tickets to the 2010 US Open via tennisnight.com.

USTA Florida will be donating a portion of the proceeds from USTA Jr. Team Tennis league fee registrations from the USTA Youth Registration events to the Red Cross for its relief efforts in Haiti. For every player registered during the events, $5 dollars will be contributed to the American Red Cross.

"It's become clear that the earthquake disaster in Haiti has, in some way, had an impact on many of us in Florida, if not directly then certainly emotionally," said USTA Florida President Donn Davis. "By donating part of the proceeds from our USTA Jr. Team Tennis League fee registration to the Red Cross, USTA Florida members will participate in the relief effort and maybe equally as important, deliver an important message to our kids about helping others in need."

USTA Youth Registration/Tennis Night in America is a grass-roots initiative from the USTA to grow tennis at the community level by promoting the fun and health benefits of tennis to youth.
