Deadline May 19 for US Open National Playoffs-Florida in Bradenton

BRADENTON, Fla. -- May 17, 2010 -- For tennis players who will be able to say, for the first time say, that they have played in the US Open [qualifying], the entry deadline is this Wednesday, May 19, 2010, for the inaugural US Open National Playoffs Qualifying-Florida, to be held May 29-June 4 at the legendary IMG Bollettieri Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

Already more than 50 players have signed-up for the men's and women's draws that will be one man and one woman champion advance to the national events. The men's national event, featuring the 16 USTA Sectional winners, will be held during the ATP Atlanta event at the Atlanta Athletic Club on July 22-25, while the women's event will be held July 29-Aug. 1 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium at Stanford University during the WTA Stanford event.

As with any tennis event, a surge of last-minute entries are expected, and players are encouraged to enter before the deadline day as not to miss out.

Players signed-up for the US Open National Playoffs Qualifying-Florida include almost every facet of recreational, junior, senior, and top-rated tennis play, including 3.5-rated men and women to senior 50 age players, former Top 100 ATP-ranked players, and everyone in between who will be able to say they have played in the US Open [qualifying]. In addition to Florida competitors, players have registered from as far as Michigan, Wisconsin, Virginia, New York, and Ontario, Canada, to compete in Bradenton for a chance to reach the US Open Qualifying draw, and possibly the main draw.

A number of celebrities and former tennis stars such as Jeff Tarango have signed-up for other USTA sectional US Open National Playoffs Qualifying events, with a possibility that Olympic skier and former high school tennis player Bode Miller, who says he will play one of the USTA sectional events, could end up playing in Bradenton.

"Nothing is impossible unless you choose not to try," former Andre Agassi coach Nick Bollettieri says. "This tournament could make someone's dream come true."

The US Open National Playoffs Qualifying-Florida men's and women's singles events are open to any players 14 years and older. The current list of entries can be viewed at http://tennislink.usta.com/tournaments/tournamenthome/applicants.aspx?M=A&T=93920.
