Florida Tennis Center Hosts Men’s 45’s and 65’s State Closed Tournament

The Florida Tennis Center was the site of the Men’s 45’s and 65’s State Closed Tournament November 14-17, 2003.  Players came from all over the state and participated in a weekend of fun, fitness and exciting competition.

Congratulations to the Men’s 65’s State Champion Allen Cohen from Wilton Manors who defeated Jack Biedenharn from Fort Pierce in 2 grueling sets 6-4, 6-2, that proved to be “A match of True Champions.”  The Men’s 65’s Consolation Winner was Malcolm Simmonds from Leesburg who beat Paul Gallagher from Pensacola in a tight 3-setter.

Kudos’ go to our own Jeff Davis from Treasure Island, USA Tennis Florida Community Coordinator, and now the Men’s 45’s State Closed Singles Champion.  Jeff defeated Andres Molina from Tampa, 6-1, 6-1.

The Men’s 45’s Doubles State Closed Champions are the USA Tennis Florida Gladiators team of Doug Booth, USA Tennis Florida Executive Director, and Don Cleveland, USA Tennis Florida President Elect, who triumphed over Bruce Caton and Kent Rettig, a tough renowned Pensacola doubles team in 3-sets, 6-4, 0-6, 6-1.
