US Players Dominate 2005 ITF Super-Seniors World Team Championships

The USA proved that it was the “best in show” by dominating the 2005 ITF Super-Seniors World Team Championships held in Antalya, Turkey Oct. 17-22, winning five of the nine cups and finishing second in two cups. 126 teams competed, representing 25 nations featuring the best senior players in the world aged 60 to 80 .

Florida men and women were prominent in this championship tournament.  Two of the women’s singles titles went to Florida residents Donna Fales of Coral Gables (65s) and Louise Russ of Boca Raton (75s.)  Louise Russ and partner Diane Hoffman of Massachusetts also won the women’s doubles title for 75s!

The US also had three champions in the men’s singles, and one of them was a Floridian - King Van Nostrand of Vero Beach (70s.)
